The Burning Crusade Turns 10

10 years ago today, Blizzard Entertainment released The Burning Crusade, the first expansion for World of Warcraft. I remember waiting anxiously for the release because I really, really wanted an alliance shaman, and this would be my chance.

I got really lucky in ordering my expansion. Back in 2007, I didn’t have Amazon Prime. I ordered my copy of The Burning Crusade, and took the standard free shipping that Amazon was offering on all purchases over $25. Jamie, my roommate at the time, had paid for 1 day shipping. Pet had some complaint with her order, and they upgraded her to 1 day shipping as well.

I was the only one to get my copy release day. So, I installed it, and upgraded my account, and the three of us sat around my computer, watching the intro cinematic, and my first step through the Dark Portal. I didn’t play a whole lot that night, out of respect for Pet and Jamie, but what I did do I enjoyed.

I think of all the expansions, The Burning Crusade was my least favorite. A big part of that, I think, is because the guild I was in dissolved about 5 months later. I’d been gone, starting my career as a long haul truck driver, and when I finally had the ability to log back in and play regularly, everyone was gone. The game’s just not as much fun when there’s no one to talk to.

Still, I enjoyed the expansion, and leveled a couple characters to the cap of 70 while it was current content.
